The Taste of Flight Gala is an annual wine tasting fundraiser and the primary source of support for the Planes of Fame Air Museum educational programs. The Planes of Fame touches the lives of nearly 10,000 school children each year. For many of these children, the museum is their first introduction to the wonders of aviation. These learning experiences set the stage for a life-long interest in history, science, and technology. Support a worthy cause that makes a difference. Take part in our online auction that includes aviation related items, art, and experiences, as well as wine, jewelry, books and much more. We invite you to join our Virtual Taste of Flight Happy Hour by clicking on the button below to buy a ticket, browse auction items, and learn more.
Your Happy Hour experience includes the Lafayette Escadrille! Join filmmakers Darroch Greer and Paul Glenshaw for an online preview of their forthcoming documentary film The Lafayette Escadrille. The Zoom presentation begins with the story (and making) of the Lafayette Cocktail, invented by Lafayette Escadrille pilots William Thaw and Raoul Lufbery. The filmmakers filmed the cocktail being made for them at Harry’s New York Bar in Paris, where Thaw, Lufbery, and the rest of the squadron used to gather while on leave from the front. We’ll make the cocktail*, share a toast, and then hear the story of the making of the film.
The Lafayette Escadrille is first-ever comprehensive documentary made about the founding squadron of American combat aviation. It is a shining example of young Americans standing up for a cause larger than themselves in a time go global crisis. It was shot at over 40 locations in France, including the actual airfields the from which the squadron flew. Learn how the filmmakers worked closely with families of the Lafayette Escadrille pilots to present the story as accurately as possible. And learn some of the surprising connections with the Lafayette Escadrille and Southern California, including the museum’s Hanriot! You are invited to watch the 20-minute version of the film (see link below) on Youtube before the event. Paul and Darroch will take your questions at the end of the presentation. Audience limited to 10.
