PLANES OF FAME AIR MUSEUM VALLE, ARIZONA FACILITY CLOSED TO PUBLIC VIEWING

PLANES OF FAME AIR MUSEUM PRESS RELEASE ⏐ February 9, 2023

The Planes of Fame Air Museum has announced that its Valle, Arizona (aka Planes of Fame Grand Canyon) facility is closed to the visiting public.  The facility, which opened in 1995 and housed an assortment of aircraft and historical memorabilia, has been converted to a facility for “return to flight” restoration.

Artifacts, memorabilia, and other items have been transferred to the Chino headquarters location.  Many of these items will be placed on public display at the Chino facility.  Others will be held in storage and possibly put on display at the Museum’s new expansion facility being constructed at the Santa Maria Airport in Santa Maria, California when that facility opens.

Questions or inquiries about the Planes of Fame Arizona facility can be directed via email to Brian Finnegan at brian.finnegan@planesoffame.org.

Every day at Planes of Fame Air Museum, you can experience history - both the reliving of it and the making of it. When one of our planes flies, for most it is a rare and wonderful thing to witness. Planes of Fame Air Museum has maintained a fleet of flyable historic aircraft for over 60 years! The Museum has operated these types of aircraft longer than the Army Air Corps or Air Force did. Planes of Fame Air Museum truly is where aviation history lives.

You too can experience history through Planes of Fame Air Museum. Maybe you live too far to visit, but we hope this website gives you a taste of what we try to do here every day. And maybe someday, you will hear the roar, look up in the sky and see one of our planes overhead!

“Recently, I visited the Planes of Fame Air Museum and found it most interesting... it is the way all museums should be patterned after. Someone is doing an excellent job.”
Sam F., Sherman Oaks, CA
“I am writing regarding the P-51A... (Serial #). She was sitting on jacks at Cal Aero Tech when I attended A/C maintenance training there in June of 1951. I often felt sadness for that aircraft, as I was sure it was destined for the bone yard. You cannot imagine the thrill it gave me to run across your museum and see her so beautiful and know she was safe. It made me misty-eyed. I honor you for maintaining a beautiful legacy.”
James H., Clarkson, WA
“I'm writing on the occasion of my 81st birthday. I want to thank you for allowing me the opportunity to participate in the fabulous air show... I met and chatted with many visitors that day- even a young 9-year old air enthusiast whose Dad told me the boy wanted to "Salute a soldier." We saluted and the boy was all smiles...it made my day as I fought back the tears.”
Joe P., No address
“I loved it (Airshow 2009). You're more than a museum. To see them in the air, hear them...well, I'm preaching to the choir. You're never going to see that many warbirds in the air for the length of time you guys do. I came from the Bay area and it's worth it. Keep up the great work!”
William B., email
“I visited Planes of Fame about 3 years ago. If I had to offer a one-word description it would be "Wow!" ... I was wearing my VFM uniform shirt and ID badge (and) the folks at Planes of Fame welcomed me like I was a personal friend!”
