The Aviation Discovery Center is an educational resource dedicated to providing fun and accessible hands-on activities designed to promote aviation awareness.
Most of the activities conducted within the Aviation Discovery Center complement the S.T.E.A.M.-based (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) curriculum taught in local schools.
The trained staff of the Aviation Discovery Center helps young people explore many aviation-themed concepts. These include understanding the principle of THRUST through exploration of the mechanics of aircraft engines. The principles of GRAVITY, LIFT, and DRAG are demonstrated in the Center’s wind tunnel or through experiments in aircraft design and wind resistance using simple paper airplanes.
Other activities focus on identifying the parts of a plane, comparing various types of aircraft, and learning the lingo used by pilots and air traffic controllers through the Pilot alphabet.
From Stomp Rockets to the Model H2O Bottle Airplane, arts and craft projects help young people apply many aviation concepts in fun-filled activities. Visitors are able to put it all together and fly a Museum aircraft using the Flight Simulators found within the Center.
